Benni Hemm Hemm - Retaliate EP

Benni Hemm Hemm release their eagerly anticipated new EP "Retaliate" in April. All 5 songs were self-recorded by Benni with Emily Scott (double bass) and Peter Liddle (horns) in his Edinburgh home and marks his first release entirely in English (or Scottish according to the press release). You can expect "knives, gold, lazy pioneers, confident talibans, blood thirsty vampires, Stan-Stan-the-caretaker-man and last but not least blood, lots of blood".

Tracklisting
1. Retaliate
2. Blood On My Blood
3. Church Loft
4. Shipcracks
5. Blood On Lady Lawson

I was lucky enough to be at Stereo last year to hear a sneak preview! In particular, I went away that night with "Blood On Lady Lawson" stuck in my head. If you can't wait 'til April you can hear the title track over at allscandinavian.com and they'll be on tour in March as a trio:

Tour Dates
24th - Whelans, Dublin
25th - Windmill Brixton, London
27th - Jericho Tavern, Oxford
28th - Buffalo Bar, Cardiff

with a special 7 or 8 piece band set at Bloc in Glasgow on the 30th. In the meantime though you can buy previous albums Benni Hemm Hemm (2006), Kajak (2007) and Murta St. Calunga (2008) over at Kimi Records. All three are highly recommended!

Benni Hemm Hemm - They Shoot Music Session (19/06/09)

I've only just discovered the cracking Viennese music videoblog They Shoot Music Don't They (@theyshootmusic) who serve up a great combination of live music and weird and wonderful locations! They've spent the last 10 days in Scotland meeting the likes of King Creosote, The Pictish Trail, Casiokids, White Rabbits, Beerjacket, The Second Hand Marching Band, Jesus H. Foxx and many more. So stay tuned to their website for the videos from their 12 Scottish sessions!

While I was having a look around I found a session from everyone's favourite Scottish/Icelandic band Benni Hemm Hemm. Thanks to Sarah and the good people over at They Shoot Music Don't They, and Benni himself for letting me share these mp3s!

mp3: Benni Hemm Hemm - Whaling In The North Atlantic (They Shoot Music session)

Well worth popping over to see the videos and photos from this session too! More from me on Benni Hemm Hemm to come..... watch this space.

...Benni Hemm Hemm!

Just seen Benni Hemm Hemm for the first time last night supporting the amazing Meursault. What a cracking wee Icelandic/Edinburghic band (I say wee, the drummer was quite possibly the tallest guy there last night!). Just imagine Sigur Ros singing Belle and Sebastian and you get the picture, albeit a highly stereotyped one!

Have a wee listen to these tracks, one from each of his/their albums to date, and see what you think. It's lovely stuff!
