...Withered Hand!

Only just found out about Withered Hand a.k.a. Edinburgh's Dan Willson from the growing hype and high praise for his album "Good News" on fellow bloggers sites. Listening to the album, I realised I've actually seen him live, supporting Broken Records at Oran Mor last month. Have to admit I wasn't blown away. If I remember correctly I called him "a bit whiny" and accused him of having "a slight attitude problem". Oh well....

....how wrong I was! The album is amazing and I'm sure any artist would get a wee bit disgruntled with a low turnout at a gig! I'm sad to say "Good News" is a bit late to enter my Top 20 hence this post. The fact that Neil Meursault is on board too has convinced me to rethink my first impression!

Here's two wee testers from the album. "New Dawn" brings back memories of Neutral Milk Hotel and "Hard On" is one of the best covers I've heard in a while! Have a listen, then head over to SL Records and get your wallet out!

  1. It took me until a couple of weeks ago to get round to buying the album. Very impressed, there's a good chance it'll force it's way into my favourites of the year.

  2. Yeah it's pretty good, my top 10's already set in stone now but he'd have been up there! Still not sure of him live though. Suppose I'll need to go see him again, second chance and all that jazz!

  3. Dan is playing the 13th Note in a couple of weeks at the eagleowl single launch, if you want to try again!

  4. Might just do that, quite fancy seeing eagleowl too.

...could kill two birds with the one stone!

  5. If my liver doesn't explode before then and there's still money in my wallet I'll be heading along for it.

  6. One of my favourite albums of the year. I too didn't really click with Dan's stuff the first time, though. Then when I got it I couldn't figure out how I never loved it the first time.

  7. Exactly how I felt once I listened to the album. Ah well, I dare say I've missed out a few other cracking albums from my Top 10 anyway... like SuBo's. A week earlier and she'd have been in with a shout! GUTTED!
