K&A with Little Yellow Ukuleles

Time for another Kowestion & Answer session (see what I did there?) with Glasgow's Little Yellow Ukuleles. They are, in no particular order (well, in the order I was sent):

Adam Breckenridge: vocals/guitar
Connor McLaughlin: guitar/vocals
Ross Coll: Bass
Shug : Drums

These guys have been friends since school and are an intriguing bunch! They hope to release an EP later on this year and are scarily good for a band that only started gigging in February last year. Here's what they had to say when I posed them a few questions....

Kowalskiy: How did your name come about?
LYUs: The name came about through a visit to our local music shop near our old school during a lunch time, where Adam and Connor but 2 ukuleles, one pink and one yellow and just started playing them about the school to folk. Connor suggested the name and we all had a chuckle and thought it suited us pretty well!

Kowalskiy: How would you describe your music?
LYUs: Our music can best be described as a fry up breakfast, with each component bringing something different, but when put together creating a familiar and welcome recipe.... which is pretty damn tasty! Although no tomatoes please.

Kowalskiy: Who are your musical influences?
LYUs: We have a pretty eclectic taste in music therefore our influence are pretty varied: some bands that we all love though are Death Cab, biffy, The Subways and Jimmy Eat World, Bloc Party and Kings of Leon. We all have our individual influences though, for example Connor is well into his Limp Bizkit, Adam is into stuff like Bright Eyes, Ross is into stuff like Nada Surf and Shug fancies Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters. Makes our writing process pretty interesting with loads of different ideas thrown about.

Kowalskiy: You've been tipped by the Glasgow Podcart team for 2010. What band do you tip to make an impression this year?
LYUs: A band that we all really like and have a lot of time for are Make Sparks. They blow us away every time we see them live and we reckon its only a matter of time before big things happen for them and they totally deserve it.

Kowalskiy: What would your 'desert island discs' be? (...hope thats not copywritten!)
Connor: Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavoured Water
Ross: Brand New - Deja Entendu
Shug: Foo Fighters - The Colour & The Shape
Adam: Roddy Woomble- My Secret is My Silence

Kowalskiy: What would be your dream gig?
LYUs: Dream gig wise we all came to the conclusion we would love to have been support for Weezer on their Green Album tour. All their albums up until then were so good (Blue Album, Pinkerton, Green Album). Awesome band, they're another band we all really like and appreciate as well.

The guys have three little treats up on their Bandcamp page for free. So have a wee listen to the insanely-catchy "Discopants" then shimmy over there and get downloading!
