The Return of Punch & The Apostles!

After two years wait, Punch & The Apostles' eponymous debut album finally hits the shops a week today... although you can get your digital copy NOW from Amazon and emusic! Rory from the band was kind enough recently to contact me and offer me a copy of the album, unofficially titled "Aloha From Hell!...". Recorded in 2008, the collection of 13 songs finally see the light of day just as the band themselves prepare to return to our shores with a "top secret" new sound. It's all very intriguing! If this album is anything to go by, I can't wait to to hear what they get up next!

The album itself is a quite-simply-stunning mêlée of good ol' fashioned jazz and rock! Brilliantly chaotic at times, slow-burning and atmospheric at others, and compulsive listening throughout! The blend of styles and instruments beg you to reach for the repeat button over and over and over again. They may have taken their time but Punch & The Apostles have delivered big-time! 8.5/10

As a welcome change from the traditional tracklisting and lyrics, the album comes complete with amazing artwork and "nonsense rhymes" (example above) from the bands accordion player Ross. If you can wait a week to get your hands on a physical copy of the album it's highly recommended!

Punch & The Apostles will be back in Scotland to promote the album in mid-March. Keep an eye out for upcoming shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and maybe even some down south. Live, they are something a wee bit special. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime here's one of the album highlights.
